Smolarek shipped to Santander

By: Steven | August 20th, 2007

ebi_hairIf you believe Kicker, that is. According to them, Dortmund have agreed to sell Ebi Smolarek to La Liga side Racing Santander for €5million. However, BVB will only be able to pocket half of that, as Smolarek’s former side — Feyenoord Rotterdam — are guaranteed the other half per Smolarek’s contract.

According to the local Spanish media, Racing are planning to present Smolarek as a player as early as Thursday.

This could turn out to be interesting. We’re pretty full on strikers, so maybe selling off Ebi for €2.5million wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Perhaps we’ll take that money and invest in a new defender to replace the awful Philipp Degen in the winter transfer window. One can only hope.

BTW: I read that Santander even offered €7m, so that would be €3,5m each. A nice profit given the fact that Dortmund only paid around €750.000.

Really? Where’d you see that? The Kicker article I read said that they were offering €5m. That’s interesting and I hope it’s true!

    Here is an English source:

But I read it in German, don’t exactly remember where. Probably was a dpa (German Press Agency) article.

Thanks for the link, Jan. 3.5m would certainly be a nice profit for selling Smolarek.
