Trochowski on loan deal to Dortmund
By: Steven | June 12th, 2007HSV leiht Nationalspieler für ein Jahr aus
EDIT: Now SportBild is backing off from “this is going to happen” to “there is a possibility this is going to happen”. Great. It looks like this could be going on a while…
This will be a headline in the June 13th edition of SportBild magazine. It says that Hamburg will loan Piotr Trochowski out to Dortmund for the year. I’m not sure if there will be an option for BVB to buy Trochowski after his loan spell is over, but either way, this is fantastic news.
We’re pretty much set for the new season. We’ve got a solid goalkeeper in Weidenfeller, capable defenders (I would be more excited about this year’s defense if we hadn’t lost Metzelder to Real Madrid), a young — but still quality — midfield, and plenty of firepower up top. I’m getting excited for the season.
Lineup Predicament
Weidenfeller; Kringe, Woerns, Amedick/Brzenska, Dede; Federico, Tinga, Petric, Trochowski; Frei, Klimowicz
The above is a possible lineup for this season. It bugs me, though, because either way you shake it, some good players are going to be left out of the starting XI. This lineup would leave players like Pienaar, Smolarek, Kruska, and Kehl on the bench. Oh well, I guess depth is needed.
I hate to get too optimistic about this team, but they really should be able to compete for a spot in Europe this season.

Wow, seems you’re the first to break the news. Trochowski will be a great addition to the squad.

Hey, what are you writing? BVB hast aquired Blaszczykowski for next season. Being an internally much sought after polish national it makes no sense for Borussia leaving him out and therefore it is very improbable that managment will buy yet another midfielder. So that´s a fake probably (the Sportbild is not known for being a reputable source).
Rozehnal seems to be another option for next season again since Newcastle apparently only bid 3.0 million for him and PSG is not amused about this. Additionally his manager said that he thinks David might prefer BVB - so that sounds more like great news than Trochowski signing since he should be able to replace Metzelder in his last seasons shape.

You bring up a good point on Blaszczykowski. He should have been in that starting XI. Thomas Doll will have a tough decision ahead of him as to who he will select to be the starters. And yeah, I backtracked in the edit at the top of the page. SportBild kind of screwed me over on this one.
As for Rozehnal, I was just getting ready to write about the recent change in the discussions between him and Newcastle. Apparently he is leaning towards Dortmund now. Great news for us.
As for Trochowski, the rumor was that he was going to Dortmund on a loan deal (not the club actually buying him).

You´re right, although I cannot imagine that BVB managment would take Trochowski on loan without an option for eventually buying him. The only reasons for getting him now would be that Doll wants to have him and that other players (i.e. Pienaar) would be leaving the club and Trochowski would be a fillup for that. But that was recently denied by managment. With the lineup of midfielder right now at the club, including Kehl, Tinga, Pienaar, Blaszczykowski, Kringe, Federico, Petric - more or less - and young talents like Sahin, Gordon and not to forget the already experienced Kruska (I have left out Ricken, although he is still at the club and there is no definite decision for his transfer), I think the midfielder situation is already dramatic enough to spark a heavy fight for the spots and even to cope with the usual injury problems BVB is facing every season.
I also was writing a bit too quick above, because Blaszczykowski is of course an internationally much sought after polish international (reportedly Clubs from England and Italy were after him before he decided that Dortmund would probably be the “best next step” since chances for him to play here are much better than in Italian or English powerhouses.

Yeah, we really are loaded in the midfield for this season. I’m really wondering how the club intends to keep all of these players happy. Along with Blaszczykowski, you have to assume Petric will also be playing a lot (in the “hanging striker” role behind the two front men).
So then there’s two more spots up for grabs. Who gets them? Kehl? Nuri? Pienaar? I’m kind of leaning towards Pienaar now, actually, because I remember Doll saying that he was impressed with him towards the end of the season. Who knows?
The off season sucks!
