Stuttgart Kickers 4:2 Borussia Dortmund
By: Steven | July 24th, 2007
Well then. Dortmund has just lost 4:2 to Stuttgart Kickers two days after beating AS Roma 4:0. I’m having flashbacks to Young Boys right about now.
Apparently we fielded a pretty young squad though. Marc Ziegler was in goal (so that might have something to do with the four goals let up…), Florian Kringe was at right back, Brzenska and Amedick were the central pair, and Vrzogic (I’ve been hearing he had a pretty lousy game) completed BVB’s backline.
Kruska, Federico, Tinga, and Petric compromised the midfield, while Nelson Valdez and Delron Buckley were given the starts up front.
Things started out nicely, with Buckley — who has without doubt been the surprise of the off-season — scoring the opener just three minutes into the match. But Angelo Vaccaro scored twice (7′, 11′) to put the Regionalliga side ahead.
Tinga pulled Dortmund level in the 38th minute, but Sven Sökler put Stuttgart Kickers ahead for good with his goal in the 75th. Benedikt Deigendesch then added the fourth and final goal seven minutes from time.
It is definitely disappointing to see the team lose to a Regionalliga side, but the team fielded definitely had some players in it that more likely than not will not be seeing playing time once the season starts (I’m looking at you, Ziegler and Vrzogic…). Thomas Doll also probably put the boys through their paces before the match, afterwards saying: “We were young and tired in the head and legs”.
Hopefully the result against Magdeburg — another Regionalliga team — in the DFB Cup is better than this one.

I have seen the first half and bits of the second on TV. At least for the first two goals I wouldn’t blame Ziegler (didn’t see the other two) but more the central defenders.

Oh, really? That’s interesting. I’ve been hearing that Vrzogic was just pretty useless, but it wasn’t even possible for me to see this one.
Brzenska and Amedick will probably be the backups to Kovac and Worns this year, anyway. Maybe they’ll each do better when paired with one of the elder statesmen.
