Preseason progressing well

By: Steven | July 7th, 2007

petric_celebrate_baselThe official Bundesliga website has a story entitled “A magician in Dortmund” on their main page today. The magician in question is new signing Mladen Petric. Apparently he loves to perform magic, but the story is more focused on him playing as an emergency goalkeeper for FC Basel and saving a penalty kick.

The article then goes on to give us some quotes from Petric. “Borussia is a big club with a fine history,” he says. “The stadium is imposing, even when it’s empty. I’m really looking forward to BVB.”. Fantastic. He finishes it off by saying: “Maybe we’ll manage to mix things up at the top of the Bundesliga.”. I’m loving this guy already.

And apparently I’m not the only one. Florian Kringe, speaking to the club’s official website, has said that all of the new players are fitting in extremely well with the team during their preseason preparations. “They are all nice characters who fit the team well,” says Kringe. This is just great to hear. Perhaps there’s a good team chemistry brewing at BVB?

That is yet to be seen, but the team will have a chance to show how well they’ve been working when they play sixth division side FSV Witten in a friendly today. Then it’s off to Switzerland on Monday, where Alex Frei is expected to join up with the team.

29 more days until kickoff against Duisburg…

The link to the penalty safe is broken. Managed to extract the YouTube link from it anyway. Great clip. :-)

Neat! The PK itself was poorly taken, but heaps of kudos to Petric for stepping up to the job at such a big moment– and then doing so well. I look forward to watching him play.
