Dortmunders close in on European football!
By: Tucker | May 16th, 2009BVB responded to Tuesdays lapse with a 6-0 victory of Bielefeld at Westfalenstadion. The victory, combined with Köln’s upset of Hamburg, pushes the Dortmunders into a Europa League spot.
Without a change to Jürgen Klopp’s starting eleven from recnet weeks the visiting Bielefeld imposed a difficult defensive approach early. However two minutes prior to the half Alexander Frei sent a free kick from the left into the box that the captain, Sebastian Kehl, rose high to out-duel Bielefeld ‘keeper Dennis Eilhoff and headed the ball in. After the break, possibly because news had leaked around Westfalenstadion of Köln’s upset brewing, BVB came out and took advantage of the visitors being forced to open up their play. Eight minutes after the re-start the score was doubled as Polish international Jakub Błaszczykowski came down the right wing before sending to Nelson Valdez near the byline, whose cross to Frei in-close came out to Tamás Hajnal to finish from six metres out. The third goal came with twenty-one minutes left as Kuba chased down a long through ball down the right flank and outracing the defender sent a perfect cross that Valdez redirected into the back of the net via a sliding touch. After the goal Jürgen Klopp allowed Valdez to leave the match to the cheers of 80,000 plus and only three minutes later his replacement, Mohamed Zidan, created the fourth goal. To the left of the box near the byline the Egyptian international sent a perfect low pass near the spot that Tamás Hajnal allowed to go through to Kehl to drive in. Up 4-0, the celebration continued with regular updates of Köln’s success still being the hot topic but with six minutes later it was 5-0 as Dedê’s cross from the left was headed in by Tinga from the top of the six yard box. Finally Mohamed Zidan puncuateted the celebration as he made it 6-0 with a drive from just inside the box three minutes from time.

This is a great win, it also helps a lot that Hamburg won. Just curious, where are you guys from? Im from the US and dont know of much BVB fans from the US.

New York. I do not know of many Dortmund fans either.
I’m a little worried about Subotic’s yellow card suspension. Santana and Subotic have built some excellent chemistry the second half of the season and i’m pretty sure hummels is a no go. looks like we’ll probably have to move owomoyela into center and play Lee on the wing.
p.s. Patrick Owomoyela has a website. i think it’s funny. http://www.owomoyela.de
Magical power. haha.

i think i will. thanks for the link.
i’ve found a nice side effect of the time zone difference is that it gets me out of bed early on saturdays.

Hunemeier is getting the start since subotic is suspended. I trust Klopp to know what is going on, but is this a smarter move than shifting owomoyela and playing lee?

dkt, I think I owe you a shirt or something because here we are in the last week and I’ve got a post that might go over ten comments. jajaja – that is a first for me and I don’t want to spoil it and make a new post. It is a record for me!!!

haha congratulations!
i’m sorry i did not start posting earlier, but this season was the first time i started to watch the games online and dedicate myself to learning about the team and becoming a true fan. Honestly i discovered BVB through Fifa (video game) and they became my favorite team. I started to follow them and learn their history shortly after. It was only until the end of the season that I felt comfortable offering up comments.
If you continue this blog into next year I will surely continue to comment on it. You’ve done a great job all year. Thank you for keeping it up.
1 more matchday and we could be Europa league bound. I am still extremely excited about the future of the team under Jurgen Klopp. I just hope we can hang on to kuba.
