Dortmund vs. Hamburg: Bushwhacked

By: Steven | September 26th, 2007

Ouch. So that’s what it feels like to be on the other end of a 3-0 drubbing.

HSV’s goal scoring exploits started fast and furious, with José Paolo Guerrero putting them ahead with only seven minutes gone by. Rafael van der Vaart, who I said would be the key man in this match, then made it 2-0 to Hamburg just before halftime.

On the other side of the break, Florian Kringe went and got himself sent off in the 51st minute, paving the way for Ivica Olic to make it a resounding 3-0.

Dortmund now sit in ninth place with nine points from seven games played.

2 of Hamburgs 3 goals were gifted by Dortmund’s defence and/or Roman Weidenfeller. Wasn’t much different against Berlin. Something’s simply not right at the back. Oddly enough: during Weidenfeller’s three match ban it was three clean sheets in a row, wasn’t it?

Exactly. Ziegler never should have been removed. How could you go against the hot hand?

It’s a combination of status and Doll’s coaching mentality I guess. Some coaches would probably choose to put Ziegler in the starting XI and let Weidenfeller fight his way back, but Doll seems to be more like one of those, who hope that trust and confidence in their A squad players helps their performances more than questioning them all the time.

Huub Stevens follows the opposite approach. No player is guaranteed to play in the starting XI. Or at least that’s what he tries to communicate to his squad – that every player has a fair chance.

I just heard that BVB now also wants to get Jörg Butt, formerly keeper of Bayer Leverkusen.

I think, Ziegler is a good one and he can keeps the goal just clean. Probably Ziegler is a better keeper than Weidenfeller.
