CL Preview: Marseille vs Dortmund

By: Clarissa | September 28th, 2011

First of all, Dortmund finally went back to winning ways this weekend. Pizczek was both the villain and then the hero of the game:

Marseille vs Dortmund

Alright, looking forwards, Dortmund take on Marseille on Wednesday in the Championsleague group stages. The win against Mainz provided a much needed boost of confidence, taking on what is I think a club that is still being slightely underrated.

Marseille are coached by Didier Deschamps. They have had a less than stellar start to the season to put it mildly (somehow that seems to be true for all the teams in this group, well, I don’t know about Olympiakos…). They had a 1-1 draw with Valenciennes last weekend and are 13th in the table. Particularly they have struggled with conceding late goals. Nevertheless, they have an impressive array of talent, starting with Mandanda in goal and other players such as Remy and Traore. Against Dortmund Marseille will be without injured CB Mbia, and Fanni.

Coming to Dortmund, the good news is that Lucas Barrios is fit again after making his comeback against Mainz. Wether he is fit enough to start is a different question. Now, I feel that I have been very patient with Lewandowski, certainly more so than many other fans in German BVB forums, but his tendency to miss one- on- ones with the keeper is really, really, annoying. In the game against Mainz he again had such a chance, but in the end the shot was more like a backpass to the keeper. This just happens to often to him. Perhaps a role as a back- up currently suits him more. It should not be forgotten that he is still young and only in his second season with Dortmund.

Götze too is able to play, that is important, he just livens up our game. Perisic has really impressed me (well, at least he scores some goals) in the last few game, so he might start too. Schmelzer and Bender are fit again, so we might see Löwe and da Silva on the bench.

To a good game!

Okay, this is totally unacceptable and embarrassing…
And the worst yet to come, people will start saying about how Germany and Bundesliga is trash (except Bayern) compared to Seria A and even Ligue 1…

@hendry, you have to remember that this is dortumd’s first champions league experience in 9 years. Marseille is a good team, and they are very tough to beat at home.

I can’t believe that the NBA season will be shortened this November 2011. How come the NBA make a deal? What will the players do without a normal season. I guess it isn’t a complete lockout yet, but they will miss quite a few games. Some of the players already have new plans like LeBron maybe playing football haha.
