Blaszczykowski –> Kuba
By: Steven | July 1st, 2007
This is great. Due to the length of his last name, Jakub Blaszczykowski will be known at Borussia Dortmund by the nickname “Kuba”. Why? Because Blaszczykowski is too long and won’t fit on the back of the jersey! Great stuff.
Also, Dortmund’s first day of training was today. Apparently 10,000 or so fans showed up to watch the boys start things off at the Westfalenstadion. Three-a-days it is for BVB!

Respect for spelling out Blaszczykowski three times in your post!

I find this name change completely disrespectful and the excuse given very poor. Blaszczykowski managed to fit perfectly fine on his jersey while at Wisla Krakow. Celtic managed to fit Vennegoor of Hesselink’s full name on his new jersey. But you guys can’t manage?

Bayern & the DFB somehow managed to fit Schweinsteiger’s name on his jersey, though I imagine “Schweini” isn’t an optimal substitute. I wonder how he got the nickname “Kuba”?

His name is Jakub, the short form of which is Kuba. And i think that the only reason they didnt want to put his full name across the back is cuz no German could say his name properly. Now he is like a Brazilian known by one name, lol.

What’s wrong with “Kuba”?
and maybe it was Jakubs idea to have Kuba?

I feel confident enough to pronounce Blaszczykowski but as jzpolska pointed out, it gives him some Brazilian flair.

Celtic fit Vennegoor of Hesselink on a jersey, so this shouldnt really be a problem should it?
