DFB Cup: Magdeburg clash on deck
By: Steven | August 3rd, 2007
Tomorrow marks the first competitive game of the season for Borussia Dortmund, as they start their DFB Cup campaign against 1. FC Magdeburg. I will preface this by saying that I will have no way of watching the match or listening to it (my German is about as good as my Swahili — that is, not good at all), so I’ll be relaying others’ reports to you later this weekend. Deal with it.
Everyone should be able to go for the match, with the exception of Roman Weidenfeller (who will be replaced by Marc Ziegler in goal due to a suspension), Alex Frei, and Giovanni Federico (both are out with injuries). The projected lineup from the club’s official website is as follows:
Ziegler; Degen, Wörns, Kovac, Dede; Kehl, Kuba, Tinga/Buckley, Petric; Smolarek, Klimowicz
That’s not a bad lineup. It’ll be interesting to see who gets the nod between Tinga and Buckley, though. Buckley has been playing well as of late, but Tinga has been pretty reliable. Either way I think we should be fine.
Unfortunately, though, I will be out of town until Sunday. So I’ll be back then with post match thoughts. Let’s not screw this one up…
