2008 Recap: The Limiting Reagent

By: Travis | Comments 1 Comment

Borussia Dortmund finished a good and fairly successful season in the Bundesliga at 6th place, after bouncing back from a depressing performance in 2007 (finishing 13th, the worst performance by the Schwarzgelben since 1987). Wait. How can finishing 7 places higher than the previous season be consider only good and fairly successful? A fair question [...]

How to measure a season

By: Steven | Comments 1 Comment

It’s an interesting question: how do you measure a season? What must happen for it to be called a success? What constitutes a failure? Is merely finishing one place higher than last season enough to deem a season a successful one? Perhaps, but that’s just not going to cut it here.
By all means, last season [...]

Pienaar & Everton, Midfield Choices, Forward Questions

By: Steven | Comments No Comments

Now Westline is getting in on the Pienaar-to-Everton story. According to them, Dortmund have indeed been negotiating a deal with the Toffees to send Pienaar to the Liverpool club on a one-year loan deal with an option to buy. They also give a quote from Michael Zorc confirming this to be true.
UPDATE: Kicker is saying [...]

Borussia Dortmund 8:0 FSV Witten

By: Steven | Comments 3 Comments

Dortmund are off to a flying start, as they won their first preseason friendly 8:0. Granted, FSV Witten suck (and even that’s probably an understatement), but still — a good result nonetheless.
Dortmund were without Alex Frei and Nelson Valdez (both have injuries), but 22 other BVB players saw playing time against Witten. Giovanni Federico scored [...]

Breaking news: Kovac and Petric look the same!

By: Steven | Comments 4 Comments

Pictures from Reviersport (that I took the liberty of putting side-by-side) confirm that new signings Robert Kovac (left) and Mladen Petric (right) look completely identical. Excellent stuff here.
Continuing with the Reviersport theme today, they recently interviewed Michael Zorc, who has assured us that Petric and Giovanni Federico aren’t too similar in their playing style. I [...]

“From Westermann to Rozehnal, nobody wants to join BVB”

By: Steven | Comments No Comments

So says the headline in today’s kicker.
I don’t think it’s the fact that nobody wants to join Borussia, but rather that people are easily persuaded by the thought of lucrative contract deals (see: Newcastle – Rozehnal) and European football (see: Stuttgart – Bastürk). Honestly, I can’t blame these players for their decisions to play elsewhere.
But [...]

Onyewu: An interesting thought

By: Steven | Comments 5 Comments

A member of a BVB group list recently posted that he thought the club should go after Oguchi Onyewu, now that Newcastle United are actively pursuing David Rozehnal. And you know what? I agree with him 100%.
First off, Gooch is a mammoth of a human being. He is 6′4” and clocks in at 210 pounds. [...]
